Light and Pattern

Lately, I've been chasing light and pattern around the house -
sometimes by design, sometimes by chance.

These two images are my favorites,
so far.

Happy creating to you!

City Heights

I'm off to the big city for business and fun,
or maybe just the business of fun.

Either way, I'm looking forward to good food without cooking,
museum visits, and catching up with my favorite peeps!

Have a great week!

Sanctuary

Time travel today, back to the month of July and a city trip.

It was hot.
The kind of hot that negates the freshly-showered and clean clothes
feeling in a matter of minutes.
A hot that lingered in shadowed alcoves.

The sun glared, cars honked, and pedestrians bustled.
I crossed the street and entered a sanctuary.

Inside it was dark with jewel-toned tinted light, and cool.
A refreshing cool that made me sigh in relief.
And, it was peaceful.
A peace born of 150 years of prayer within its walls.

I made pictures.
I marveled.

Wishing you a bit of peaceful sanctuary today and all the year through.

Winter Dreamscapes

Reality = 20 below zero most mornings.
Sound appealing?

How about a dreamy winter wonderland instead?
That's my vote!

I hope you've got some marvelous plans and dreams for 2014,
and they all come true!

Enjoy this creative life -
it's the best!

November Dawn

It was early, and crisp.
Mist was swirling across the lake as golden
light cut through the haze.

A magical bit of lighting,
there one moment and gone the next.

Wishing you great light,
if only for a moment!

The Latest

A couple bits of goodness ~

Recently, I was featured in the Impossible Project's Analog Travelog Series.
This is the Polaroid version of my summer trip to the city,
 taken with Impossible film.
Hope you can check it out - here.

Secondly, I just got back from teaching at the
Indian Summer Quilt Show & Conference.

Many thanks to Muriel, Marcia, the friendly guild members, and all
the enthusiastic students that I had the pleasure of working with.
It was a delightful week!!!

Wishing you joy in creating.....
it's a wonderful way to live.

Reflecting

I've mentioned that I have a thing for reflections.

Maybe it's because reflections toy with visual reality.
They are like fact, fiction, and fantasy all woven together.

Oh, and throw in a little magic also.

Reflections are visual magic!

I'll be away teaching next week,
probably looking for reflections in my off hours.

Wishing you a creative week!

City Sights

Reflections were everywhere.

I took a break from house remodeling projects to visit the big city.

It was a great time!
Loved the food, company, sights (so very different), and mocha lattes
while enjoying books at Barnes & Noble.
Tolerated the heat, noise, grunge, and chaos.

Abstract glimmer in a back alley.

I brought my Polaroid Spectra with Impossible film and DSLR.
So, I now have lots of Polaroids to scan and
digital images to edit.
Memories made tangible ~
photos are perfect for that.

Marble, light, and pattern.

I hope you're enjoying summer and
have been able to slip away on a vacation of some sort.

Frosty

Frosty mornings and pleasant days describe weather in the north woods of late.

For those in the US, I hope the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday
finds you with much to be thankful for.

Blessings to you!

Autumn Splendor

Autumn looks pretty stunning here in the north woods,
whether dressed in subtle black and white...

or colorful garb.

Her visit always seems too short.
I beg her to linger but, alas she won't listen.

Wishing you splendid autumn days!

Endless Winter

Late afternoon light,
shoreline tree shadows dancing out across the lake,
cold temps,
nasty windchill,
frozen footprints,
glint of sunlight from behind the clouds,
momentary magic,
trudging home,
hot tea ~
the story of a winter's afternoon.

Everyday Beauty

"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished"  ~ Lao Tzu

Winter is in no hurry to leave.
In fact, winter seems a bit greedy - gripping onto more of its seasonal time slot than most folks feel is reasonable!
So, what shall we do......  I decided to humor winter and explore some of its everyday beauty.
I found a hedgerow with gnarly, wild child charm.

I looked to the heavens and spied a cathedral of sunlight and a zillion branches.

Finally, I turned around and saw jewel-like globes of brilliant color adorning our fruit trees.

My Backyard

"In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary".  ~ Aaron Rose

I have a photography project called "My Backyard".  As far as backyards go, my backyard is quite beautiful.  But.... given human nature, it's easy to take this beauty for granted.  Thus, the goal of my project is quite simple - I'm attempting to see the beauty at hand with a fresh eye, looking for the extraordinary within the ordinary!
