Sculpture and Shadows

So, let's continue the ongoing saga of my wonderful trip to Rhode Island.
As I mentioned, on my day off from teaching art quilting and beading,
I walked up to the RISD Museum of Art.
It was a fascinating day filled with so much beauty!
Today, I want to share with you some of the stone
sculpture pieces in their collection.

The lovely color and luminous quality of marble always intrigues me.
Just think about this amazing feat,
to make stone read as skin, hair, and flowing or textured fabric!

Subtractive type sculpture seems to me perfection in 3-Dimensional form.
There isn't any room for... "oopppsss, I just chipped off too much"!
No whipping out the E 6000 glue to patch that mistake back on.

Truly amazing, don't you think?

  6. Lovely craftsmanship, well-photographed! I love the soft drape of the fabric and hair in the last one. I can't imagine creating something so delicate-looking out of stone.

  9. I find it amazing too! I have come to love sculpture. There can be such life to it, when created by a master. Thanks for linking in to Exploring with a Camera!
