Lisa, at The Creative Exchange asked us to share our favorite capture from 2011.
Well, it only took me about two seconds to choose mine.
This shot of my garden daylily is my favorite.
I liked the light, color, composition, detail, focus, and DOF in this piece.
But, most of all I was happy with the delicate, ethereal feeling captured.
To me, that is what photography is all about -
trying to capture the feeling and "personality" of the subject.
Ansel Adams said, "Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop".
I am thrilled with this one humble capture and it spurs me on...
it is the thrill of the hunt,
the thrill of getting the one
perfect
capture,
ever elusive,
but out there -
somewhere,
that keeps me challenged, clicking, and searching.
Now, I'm searching for winter's beauty, feeling, and mood.
Wishing you joy in the creative process and
a wonderful, productive New Year!!!

That would certainly meets Ansel Adams' criteria of a significant photo. I'm so glad Lisa did this, because I never saw it the first time around, and it is magnificent!
ReplyDeleteThe softness on the left of the frame is just pure. I concur with everything you are pleased about this photo - I really think it's beautiful. Great quote too - sometimes when I post photos I think that it's not good enough but the I realise that it's not about that, just, as you say, it's about the thrill of the search.

Thank you for the Ansel Adams quote. I needed that today, as I shot well over 100 photos yesterday, and did not get even one that I came close to liking! :-(

ReplyDeleteHello my friend! You have snow in the northern reaches of the state - oh lucky you. We have seen nary a flake here in the SE. I'm hoping for a good snow fall one of these days, but the prediction is for another warm up at week's end. What a season so far.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about this photo. It's everything that you wrote and more - for me it's the pleasing combination of colors also. And yes, ethereal. I remember the very first time I heard that word. I was a young girl and my favorite aunt (Marie) was showing me a new art purchase that she had just hung in her bedroom. It was a water color and we were each standing there, gazing at it and she said "it's so ethereal, I just love that about it". I didn't know what the word meant, but I knew I would go home and familiarize myself with its meaning. I was too shy to reveal my ignorance. That word has continued to please me whenever I see it or hear it. What beautiful lessons life has to teach us, no? Your photo reminds me of that special moment I shared with someone I loved deeply. Thanks for that. I wish you the happiest, most joyful, full-of-cheer year ever Anna. I hope you have a nice crackling fire to sit in front of there in the great North Woods. happy week to you dear.
The flower close-up is amazing. What is that line from Fern Gully? "Worlds within worlds"
